I'm a Part of History, Too!
Through creating a personal history timeline, students discover
that studying history is more than memorizing a list of facts, dates, and names.
They learn that history is the window to the past, a way to see how things were
and how things came to be.
The Task
Students create personal timelines and chronicle their own history in pictures
and captions.
Materials
Procedure
- Work individually to create a personal timeline. Use the blackline master
linked above in the materials section.
- The timeline depicts five important life events, beginning with the date
and place of birth. Spend some time planning--brainstorm a list of important
life events, and narrow it down to five.
- Illustrate the events, and write a caption that tells what is special and
important about each one.
- Share your timeline with your classmates.
