Overview / Objectives

Pictures tell a story. A photo album is a book that keeps records and important memories through pirctures and short descriptions. The selection of pictures to fill the limited space in the album is important. One wants to create a complete memory of important events. Students create a photo album to record the events of a chapter, section, or entire novel.

Directions:

Think about the chapter, section, or entire novel. What are iimportant events that take place? If you were a character in the story, and had a camera, what would you have taken pictures of in order to remember your journey? Draw the pictures you would have taken. Write a caption to explain what is happening in each picture.

Procedure

  1. As a class, discuss what important events are?
  2. Divide the class into cooperative groups to create a group photo album.
  3. The groups should discuss the important events of the chapter, section, or the entire novel, and decide what to include in their photo album.
  4. Students draw the photos for their album. Then they write a short paragraph about what the photo tells.
  5. The group then peer edits their paragraphs and assembles the photo album with pictures facing the written facts.
