Coming to America

I remember when my mother used to tell me about her amazing trip to America on an airplane.

About 20 years ago, on the 8th of September, my mother and father went to the busy, noisy airport in the morning because they wanted to arrive in America earlier in the day.

As my parents waited for their flight to America from Hong Kong, China, they were very nervous because they were the first in my family to get a citizenship and arriving to America.

Only my parents went to America because the rest of my mother's side of the family are in China. But my father has some relatives already in America, so my parents have to live in America in order for the rest of her family to come.

My family decided to come to America because some of my aunts and uncles need to go to college in America, and of course, for a better living.

You see, in Hong Kong, my family used to be very poor. Hong Kong only has one college!

My family used to be so poor that they couldn't ever afford beds! They had to sleep on boards!

When my parents arrived in America, they started making money.

If it weren't for my parents, my family would have never happily arrived in America.
