Coming To America

MY LOVELY CITY, HUE

I was born in Hue, a small city located in center of Vietnam. This is the city where Kings and Queens used to live. Hue is a very romantic city with Perfume River. It is called Perfume River because it smells like perfume. Hue also has Nui Ngu Mountain which has been famous for its half-sphere shape, situated adjacent to Perfume River.

I recalled that there were a lot of rain in Hue that I had to wear raincoat most of the time during fall and winter season. Hue is a romantic city where poets and writers use it in their poems and stories.

I lived there for seven years and finished my first grade there. In 1993, my whole family was sponsored to settle in America since my dad worked for the American Government before 1995. I felt very happy when I heard the news that we would be settled in the United States, a very rich country. But I was very worry that we would have to live in a strange place with differnet culture and language.

I came to the United States two weeks before Christmas and it was very cold. I felt very lonely because I missed my grandma, grandpa, uncles, aunts and friends. Luckily, I still had my parents and my brother with me.

My brother and I went to Emerson School. I started with the second grade and my brother started with the four grade. I remembered I could not understand I would from my teachers and classmates. I was frustrated and lonely. But with the help of my friends and teachers, I overcame with the barrier of language.

After four years in the United States, I am now a six grade student. Things have changed a lot. I now have a younger brother born here. His name is Thomas. My older brother is now in the eight grade and we are in the same school, Ynez School. My parents, brothers and I all get used to this country and we are very happy to be here.
