When I Came To Seattle

Hi, my name is Stacy, and I was born in the United States. I'm going to tell you a story about my family and me. My whole family was born in Honduras. My mom was looking for a job in Honduras, but she didn't find any so she called her friend. I think her name was Maria. Then my Mom asked her if there was a job in California. She said, "yeah." So then my whole family moved to California.

On June 30, 1985, I, Stacy, was born. My dad found a good job. A year later, he went to work. One day he went inside the building. He was doing his work when suddenly he smelled something funny. It was coming from the laundry room. He went in there and checked what it was. He saw fire. He ran to his boss and told him. Then his boss ran out of the office and turned on the fire alarm. Everyone went out of the building.

The next day he quit, and my Mom called Ese, her sister, who was living in Boston at the time. My Mom asked, "Are there any jobs there?" Her sister said yes. So my whole family moved to Boston. My Mom and Dad were looking for jobs, but they didn't find any. Ese was lying about jobs. She just wanted to see the family.

Then my Mom called my Godmother. Her name is Bonita and she lives in Seattle. My Mom asked if there were any jobs there. My Godmother said yes, but my Mom didn't really believe her because her sister had lied to her. The next day the phone rang. It was for my Mom, and it was her friend. She said, "I believe you are looking for a job." My Mom said, "Yeah." So my whole family moved to Seattle.

Instead of my Mom and Dad finding jobs, it was my Brother and Sister who went to work. My family has now lived in Seattle for five or six years. My Mom and Dad never found a job. My brother works at Home Depot. My sister works downtown, and I go to school. Now my Mom wants to go to Houston, Texas. She thinks it will be quieter there. I want to stay in Seattle because it's fun and I have a lot of friends here.
