Dear Rifka,

I have no idea how you could go through all those terrible thing. You are very brave, Rifka. I know that I would not be able to go through all this terrible times you have gone through.

You were the only person that could talk to the guards in Russia. It all depended on you. If you could not speak Russian like you do, your family might all be dead. Thank God for my dad. If he did not come, you would not be able to go to America.

When you guys got to Poland, a doctor had to come in and examine you and your mama. I would have felt dirty too with the doctor looking at me like that. I think I would not take off my clothes or underwear.

The worst thing of all is typhus. I would not be able to get out of my bed at all. I hope that you, your mom, dad, and brother get better. I am so proud of you.

Shalom, my cousin,

Tovah
