| I was happy to get your letters in the book of Pushkin. It arrived in our little town Berdichev just yesterday. Cousin, I was touched by your letters and my heart went out to you.
I can't believe that the guard at the Polish border made you take your clothes off outside in the cold. How humiliated you must of felt! At least you left Russia and are on your way to America. I know that you will be joining your older brothers in America, where you will be safe from the Russian soldiers, but I still miss you.
You must have felt awful when you had the typhus. Many people die from typhus, so God must have been watching over you and your family because you all survived. I know you have a long way to travel until you reach America, and I won't rest until I know that you have leanded safely at Ellis Island. I pray for your family every night and wish you well.
