Dear Rifka,

I just received your book of Pushkin filled with letters you wrote. Some of your letters are funny and some are sad. When you got to America you should have sent Sister Katrina and the HIAS lady a letter to let them know you got to America and what you did before you got there. I'm very sorry that the baby you took care of died at night. I like the way you were being brave when you were on the ship. I wish you had a birthday party and that I could have been there to see it. I thought it was funny when you wrote in your letter that Ilya messed up the toilet paper and you were running from the men and were scared. It was nice of your brother, Saul, to come to see you. I'm glad that you gave your brother your money to buy your mom some candle sticks because they took the ones she had. It's nice that you saw your entire family.

Ilya was a good, smart boy to read in front of many people. He showed them that you are smart by writing your own poems. He even read the poem to them.

I liked how you told them that you could get married even if you were bald. You were very brave.

Rifka, your book was good and I just wish I could be there with you. That's all I have to say, my cousin. Goodbye. Send me more letters and tell your brothers and your ma and your dad and your brother's wife and son that I said hello.

Shalom, my cousin,

Tovah
