Task
Students write stories about family members who moved from another country to America, or from one location to another--another community or even another home or school. They send their stories to Gail, and she posts them here to share with other students across the U.S.
Procedure
- Before reading Letters from Rifka, a story about a young girl's trip from Russia to America, students write their own stories of family members moving from one location to another. Some involve a move from one country to another, some involve a move into a new community, new home across town, or going to a new school.
- Students may want to research the location of their ancestors' home town, country, and the events that were occuring at the time and place of their move and include this information in their stories.
- Teachers may also want students to conduct background research on topics such as the
location of Rifka's home town, her trip from Ukraine to America, or
treatment of Jews by the Russians.
- To find information on these topics, the following Web Resources may be helpful.
- Send us your Family's Story and we will share them
here. Enjoy these stories, and compare your family history with other
students around the world.
