Here I Come!
One 60-minute staff development program
Five 30-minute student programs for grades 4-6
During the staff development program, strategies and techniques needed to
effectively implement the five student programs are explored. Content
and activities for each student program are demonstrated and the teacher
guide is presented. Students explore how people have interacted with
environmental regions such as mountain ranges, major coastal bays, natural
harbors, river valleys and delta regions, and how these interactions
have influenced history. Events from California history are used as examples.
Through an activity based learning environment, students acquire basic
study skills and utilize critical thinking as history and geography come
alive.

programs explore natural events and discover what impact these events
have in determining how and where people live. Both historical and present
day examples illustrate how people have adapted and survived. The topics
include: Earthquakes: Historical Significance, Floods: Necessity and
Deluge, Fires: Helpful and Destructive and Winds: Ordinary and Extraordinary.
