Program Descriptions by Content
MATHEMATICS: GEOMETRY

The Geometry series, Shapes in Space, provides lessons for first through middle school grades and gives students rich experiences with both two- and three-dimensional shapes. The content of the programs is correlated to the California Standards and NCTM standards. Students are introduced to properties and attributes of geometric shapes, angle measures, area and perimeter, transformations, and symmetry. Pre and Post Tests are available.

Staff Development:
Teaching Geometry Concepts (K-8)

Two 60-minute staff development programs

These staff development programs help teachers understand geometry and the instructional strategies for effectively teaching geometry concepts. Program design, teacher guides, and online opportunities for students, teachers, and parents are explored. Strategies and resources are presented to help students learn how to use technology as a tool for processing information, visualizing and solving problems, exploring and testing conjectures, accessing data, and verifying solutions.

Assessement tools have been developed to be used in conjunction with TEAMS Mathematics modules.

Student Programs:
Geometry Concepts for Primary Grades (Grades 1-2)

Six 30-minute student programs

This module stresses the development of geometric ideas through activities that engage students in doing, thinking, and reflecting on geometric concepts. Activities help build self-confidence, nurture natural curiosity, and challenge students with rich problems that help them learn to appreciate and value mathematics. The content includes Sorting Geometric Shapes, Classifying Geometric Shapes, Discovering Attributes of Geometric Shapes, Constructing Shapes, Slides, Flips, and Turns and Three-Dimensional Geometry.

Student Programs:
Geometry In My World (Grades 3-4)
Eight 30-minute student programs

This module helps students develop an appreciation of geometry as a means of describing the physical world. The contents include Defining Polygons, Transformation, Tessellating Shapes, Problem Solving with Pentominoes, Geometry & Number, Properties of Polyhedrons, 2-Dimensional Parts of Polyhedrons and Math in Art.

Related Assessment Tools: Grades 3-4, Geometry in My World

Student Programs:
Turn On to Geometry (Grades 5-6)

Eight 30-minute student programs

This module helps students develop spatial understanding. Through active investigation, students discover properties and relationships of two- and three-dimensional figures as well as an appreciation of their own geometric world. Students work cooperatively to develop an understanding of such geometric concepts as similarity, congruency, and how to apply transformations. The content includes: Sorting & Classifying, Discovery Why Polygons Tessellate, Exploring Angles Using Tangrams, Exploring Polygons, Using Tangrams, Creating Polyhedrons Using Polydrons, Drawing 3-D Objects in Perspective, Demonstrating Geometric Ideas and Platonic Solids and Crystals.

Related Assessment Tools: Grades 5-6, Turn On to Geometry

Student Programs:
Geometry Concepts for Middle School (Grades 6-8)

Six 30-minute student programs

This module helps students develop a greater understanding of geometric concepts by comparing geometric figures and understanding geometric properties and relationships. The contents include: two- and three-dimensional Geometry Concepts, Properties of Angles, Angle Sums, Properties of Triangles, Transformations &Coordinates and Properties of Polyhedrons.
