HISTORY

History Hunt
One 60-minute staff development program
Five 30-minute student programs for grades 2-3

The staff development program provides teachers with an overview of the content and activities of the student programs as well as the strategies and techniques needed to effectively implement them.

Students become inquirers of history by comparing and contrasting stories or accounts about past events, people, places, or situations to their own lives. Activities provide for the study of the ways human beings view themselves in and over time. The topics include: Family Memories, School House History, Past-time Fun, History Walks, and Living History.

 

Student as an Historian
One 60-minute staff development program
Five 60-minute student programs for grades 4-6

In the professional development program, teachers explore strategies and techniques needed to effectively implement the five student programs. An overview of the content and lessons for each student program is presented.

Students explore and learn about their own family history. They discover that history is more than memorizing a list of facts, dates, and names. Students learn that history is a way of recording, preserving, and connecting to the past. Topics include: Ancestry Detectives, Back to the Past, Family Scrapbooks, Family Stories, and Family Histories.
